Nurse practitioner, diagnostic radiology resident join UMMC faculty

Medical Center leadership is proud to announce the following additions to its faculty and leadership staff.

Jennifer G. Richardson, M.S.N.

Jennifer G. Richardson, an infant/neonatal nurse practitioner at UMMC, has joined the Medical Center faculty as an instructor in the School of Nursing’s Neonatal Nurse Practitioner Track.

After receiving her B.S.N. from the Mississippi University for Women in 1997, Richardson joined UMMC as a pediatric and neonatal intensive care nurse. She served as a labor and delivery nurse at River Oaks Hospital from 2001-03 and a neonatal intensive care nurse at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center from 2003-05 while concurrently earning her M.S.N. at the University of South Alabama, Mobile, in 2005. In 2006, she joined Newborn Associates in Jackson as an infant/neonatal nurse practitioner and came back to UMMC in 2011.

Richardson is an active member of the American Academy of Pediatrics and the National Association of Neonatal Nurses.

 

Laura Skelton Smith, M.D.

Dr. Laura Skelton Smith, recently a diagnostic radiology resident at Baptist Health System in Birmingham, Alabama, has joined the Medical Center as an instructor in radiology.

After receiving her B.A. in biochemistry cum laude and her B.A. in biology cum laude from the University of Mississippi in 2009, Smith earned her M.D. at UMMC in 2013. She then had a transitional year residency from 2013-14 at Baptist Health System before beginning the diagnostic radiology residency program.

An active member of the American College of Radiology and the American Medical Association, Smith has authored or coauthored three research posters presented at scientific meetings.
